Miracle on the Hudson: Prepare for Safety

Run time: 26 Minutes

In Miracle On The Hudson: Prepare For Safety, Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger relives the fateful day that he was forced to land US Airways Flight 1549 in the Hudson River. What started as a normal take-off was soon a near-crash when the airplane ran into a flock of geese, disabling all of the engines. By drawing upon his training and experience, recalling the basics of safety and making calm quick decisions, he steered his jet to a miraculous -- though wet -- landing on the river.

Captain Sullenberger recounts how having the right safety attitudes helped him, his crew and teams of first responders manage to save all the lives of the passengers on board. This narrative is combined with video footage depicting industrial workplace safety examples.

The video program introduces the 4 "C's" of industrial safety and on-the-job training and decision making while illustrating how to develop these traits:
~ Competence:
  • What does it mean to be competent on the job?
  • Situational awareness
  • Steps to becoming more competent
~ Compassion:
  • Definition of compassion
  • How does compassion affect safety?
  • Ways to display compassion on the job
~ Commitment:
  • Understand on-the-job commitment and its opposite - complacency
  • Importance of being committed to safety
  • Demonstrating commitment on the job, especially in regards to safety
~ Communication:
  • How communication and safety go hand in hand
  • Ways to make sure you are communicating effectively
  • Communication techniques, such as open-ended questions

Your employees will see how Captain Sullenberger's experience translates to the workplace and how they can acquire, apply and incorporate these traits into their own lives, both on- and off-the-job.
