While texting is a newer form of communication at work (although widely popular, especially in younger or tech driven organizations) email is one of the top methods of communication. Unlike phone calls, these forms of communication are permanent and NOT private. This can result in many unfortunate events that past generations have not had to worry about at work.
Many people unknowingly make mistakes with email and texting in the workplace; these mistakes are on record and can have dire consequences. Nothing is private, in fact it is now a common practice for lawyers to subpoena email records if need be. Improper usage of email can also give company computers dangerous viruses, and give away trade secrets and insider information. Emails and texting are also unfortunately used in workplace bullying and sexual harassment. One they are out there they can not be taken back. (more…)
