We live in a dizzying time of technological, societal and generational change. This reality can often wreak havoc in the workplace.
Here’s an example. Among today’s youngest workers are the millennial generation who were born into a highly connected digital age, most likely grew up with few or no siblings, had very attentive parents, and were encouraged to be extremely creative in school.
Because of their unique generational influences, millennials often find themselves in conflict with older workers. To older generations, millennials can sometimes come across as self-centered or high-maintenance–seemingly needing much more oversight and positive feedback than necessary. Of course, millennials don’t see it that way and they often sense that older workers are slow to embrace technology and are unwilling to let them (the millennials) stretch their creativity.
Generational differences like these can seem insurmountable, but in reality, a lot of the friction simply stems from a lack of understanding or insight into the perspectives of each generation. At CRM Learning, we provide several different educational videos that focus on bridging the generational gap between workers to create a more harmonious workplace. These videos provide background information on the many generations that make up today’s workforce while demonstrating how to avoid stereotypes, show respect to others, and be more flexible when dealing with a co-worker whose life experiences are different from your own.
