Open Mind, Open World
Run time: 31 Minutes
In today's global workplace, project managers may be working with their counterparts who are in a different country altogether; or, when meeting face to face with colleagues they may have to understand cultural styles and nonverbal cues that lead to miscommunication.
In a global economy, cultural misunderstandings can have an immediate, negative impact on business productivity.
Open Mind, Open World provides a solid foundation for identifying and understanding basic cultural values and behaviors. Employees and managers gain insights, strategies and skills that help minimize those cultural misunderstandings and strengthen interactions.
To demonstrate how to address challenges that may arise when cross-cultural communications come into play, the program introduces a four-step O.P.E.N. model:
O – Observe the behavior P – Prepare a response E – Engage in communication N – Notice the results
After completing the program, your managers and employees will be able to:
- Identify cultural tendencies that impact their interactions and effectiveness with global colleagues
- Identify and respond to situations involving intercultural dynamics
- Distinguish between effective and ineffective intercultural communication
- Use global awareness and the O.P.E.N. process to improve communication and productivity
Note: Although this program focuses on the business world, the concepts and tools apply equally well to intercultural interactions experienced by healthcare professionals, government employees, academics and administrative staff, social service workers, volunteers and anyone who interacts with people of different cultural backgrounds. Every organization has its own unique personality. The program is flexible enough to be used in a variety of ways to educate and sensitize anyone.
